PADDLE FOR PEOPLE benefiting HOPE CLINIC HOPE Clinic provides free medical care for low-income adults ages 18-65 who
lack health insurance and are not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare. The
Clinic treats patients on Thursday evenings in the Pamlico County Health
Department.
In 2007, HOPE Clinic provided 688 people with medical care including
prescription medications, laboratory tests, health education and referral
to specialists outside the Clinic. The number of patient visits was 3,663, about a 5% increase over 2006.
More that 75% of our patients suffer from chronic diseases such as
hypertension and diabetes.
More than 150 licensed medical professional volunteers and non-medical,
administrative volunteers contributed more than 8,999 hours of labor
valued at $175,000.
Pharmaceutical companies, local physicians' samples and purchased
prescriptions provided much needed medications, but the numbers are
increasing. In 2007 the Clinic filled 15,228 prescriptions. In 2006, the
number was 13,369.
